The pictures exhibited at these two shows were a combination of Jiri’s private fashion work and his project cityLab, which is an emotive study of the words most exciting cities, capturing their particular atmosphere and feeling. cityLab began in New York, where Jiri has spent four years of his professional life, and has been his greatest artistic ambition ever since.
Jiri believes the best equipped fashion studio to be the street, with the most genuine models being ordinary people. He has found that in every city there is a different kind of sex appeal, style and sentiment, which is what he attempts to capture with his camera in countries all around the world. Jiri tries to project the subjectivity of experience of different cities and his ultimate aim is to provoke in the viewers of his art familiar feelings and emotions based on their personal memories and experience of a place. The project still has a big ambition as many places yet remain to be visited and many a story of the ordinary people on the street captured.
